2020 is the fifth year that Petrovietnam has implemented the Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry Development Strategy to 2025 and orientations to 2035. Successful implementation of the 2020 plan contributes to the successful achievement of objectives and tasks of the 5-year plan (2016-2020), together with the whole country overcoming difficulties and challenges to accelerate economic development in parallel with maintaining macroeconomic stability, continuing to strongly implement economic restructuring is associated with renewing the growth model, improving productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness, ensuring social security, social welfare and improving people's lives. Being aware of this, Petrovietnam is determined to fulfill and over-fulfill the plan right from the first days and the first month of the year.

Following the publication of Profit500 Ranking 2019 - Top 500 best profitable enterprises in Vietnam in 2019, in which Petrovietnam maintains the leading position, on 26th November 2019, Vietnam Report continued to publish VNR500 - Top 500 largest enterprises in Vietnam in 2019, under which Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group continued to lead with two names in the Top 10 list (Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) ranked 3rd and Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) ranked 7th.

On 8th November 2019, Mr. Le Manh Hung - President & CEO of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), General Director of PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PVGas) and representatives of PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation, some specialized divisions of the Group had a meeting with the US business delegation led by Director of the US Trade and Development Agency (US TDA) and the leaders of major US energy companies such as AES Corp, Honeywell, LNG Limited/ Magnolia LNG, Cheniere Energy Inc., Tellurian, Benchtel Corporation and representative of US Embassy in Vietnam.

On 28th October 2019, at Thi Vai Terminal (Tan Phuoc commune, Tan Thanh district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) and PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) held the Groundbreaking Ceremony for construction of LNG Thi Vai terminal warehouse. National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu attended and performed the ground-breaking ceremony.

On 22nd August 2019 in Hanoi, on the official visit to Vietnam of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc introduced Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and proposed to promote cooperation for energy, oil and gas between PVN and Australian Corporations/ Companies. With the consent of the Prime Minister, PVN delegation led by Mr. Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors visited and worked with Australian partners from 14th to 19th October 2019. At the invitation of Mr. Tsybulsky Aleksander Vitalevich - Governor of Nenets Autonomous Area, on 13th - 14th September 2019, Mr. Phan Ngoc Trung - member of the Board of Directors led Petrovietnam’s working group to attend the 90th anniversary of the founding of Nenets Autonomous Area and the Oil and Gas Day of the Russian Federation. The working group included Rusvietpetro leader, Head of the Group’s Representative Office in Russia and Representative of the Group’s Administration Office.
